The Meaning of Freedom
It is very unfortunate that often we take freedom for granted and forget the pain that the generations before us had endured under the yoke of a foreign rule. Such was the pain and stigma of slavery that the great Muslim leader

On Road to Progress
I know of no nation state that has achieved in five or six decades of its birth as much as Pakistan has achieved in all fields of human endeavour. When it burst forth on the world's map on I4th August 1947, it had no federal government, which was quickly created in large Euro tents under a cabinet of six ministers Shortage of pen, ink, paper was made up by using copying pencils.

JINNAH'S VISION OF PAKISTAN
There is not much debate or even concern about what was the vision of the founders of Pakistan. What type of state they had in mind when they struggled of an independent country that we call our homeland, Pakistan? Conception of Pakistan
Come 23rd March and we indulge in our favourite pastime. We carry out a national audit of our past doings and generally give poor marks to ourselves on all counts. Special Pakistan Day TV and radio talk shows and newspaper supplements lament in excruciating detail, how our journey as a nation has gown awry and how we have lost both our moral bearing and ideological moorings. After this collective chest beating, we go back to our mundane daily chores, till another 23rd March or 14th August us upon us and the annual ritual of finding faults with our selves at the national and individual level is repeated adnauseum. Pious statements and commitments are made and then there is silence and inaction.

A Fateful Day
Pakistan was not gifted to us on a golden platter. It was not an easy and simple task to attain a separate homeland for the Muslims of undivided India. The Muslims of United India had little or no say in important decision making policies of British India. 23rd March 1940 was indeed a very important day because that day the Lahore Resolution of Qarardad-e-Lahore was signed to pave the way for an independent Mulim state. The Qarardad-e-Pakistan was the formal political statement adopted by the Muslim League in its three-day session from 22-24 March 1940.

In Pakistan the floods occur as a consequence of monsoon rains due to monsoon system which develops from the east. This year the monsoon rains were forecasted to be plus 10% of the previous year which was safe and well within the normal limits. However, as a consequence of a westernly system which entered Pakistan and its comb with the monsoon system resulted in flash floods in KPK, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, AK and Northern areas . Country wide torrential rains caused unprecedented and outrageous floods in all over the country in a decade time. This resulted in the loss of human lives, property, and livestock and damaged to the communication infrastructure.

Quaid's True Vision of a State
The State of Pakistan was founded by Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah for a goal and purpose which was to be achieved by the later generations. These aims and objectives were expressed by the Quaid in various speeches, statements, interviews and press statements. The character of the state was also determined by the Father of Nation in a clear manner. Despite efforts by certain quarters to spread confusion about the goal, objective, ideology of Pakistan, Jinnah's ideas were not only true to the situation..

In Honor of the Brave
I was a young Squadron Commander when Alavi joined our regiment and it was obvious from those initial days of his career that he was a very different breed. We all played sports with our soldiers like hockey and basketball but Alavi was one of the few who challenged them in Kabaddi, a game that was traditionally soldiers only. Dark by complexion but extremely well built and muscular, he was an intimidating sight in the arena and earned the nickname of 'Gorilla'. Those were the days of the boxer Mohammad Ali and his famous bout in the Philippines.

Validating Two Nation Theory
In Pakistan, we have so-called liberals, intellectuals and politicians who keep on promoting the philosophy that Muslims could have been thrived alongwith Hindus without claiming the need for a separate homeland and the greatest tragedy that occured in the form of mass killings of Muslims could have been averted. There are people who intend to induce confusion regarding the Two-Nation Theory....

Leiutenant Colonel Tahir Iqbal Shaheed
I went there overwhelmed and immersed in a deep sense of loss and came back with a renewed hope and resolve to serve my country. This is the concluding impression once I am writing these lines about Lieutenant Colonel Tahir Iqbal Shaheed. It appeared as a great personal loss once I heard about his death but then thinking about Shahadat and the cause for which he laid his life brought me some soothe. Lieutenant Colonel Tahir Iqbal embraced Shahadat on 28th June 09 in North Waziristan Agency once his convoy was ambushed by terrorists near Gharlamai.

Major Abid - A hero to his last breath!
Unfortunately the Pakistan Army has been the butt of Public Criticism during the last few years, but the people forget that the Pakistan Army and its valiant soldiers have always been injecting the fresh blood in the national polity by their inimitable sacrifices, be it the floods or the earthquake or the war against the enemy. Same spirit of sacrifice and valour is being exhibited in the ongoing struggle against the militants. The heroic story of Major ABID MAJEED bears testimony to this reality.
