Introduction |
|
On 23 August 1997, Federal Cabinet assigned the Anti Smuggling duties to Frontier Corps on Pakistan – Afghanistan border as part of the national plan of action. However, the modalities of its tactical employment were to be deliberated. Subsequently, CBR issued to SROs in which central and regional warehouses in Federally Administer Tribal Area under Frontier Corps were notified and adjudication powers of the Political Agent were withdrawn. Necessary staff of customs was deputed with Headquarter Frontier Corps for adjudication and disposal of cases seized by Frontier Corps units.
From September 1997 to March 2005 within a short span of time Frontier Corps North West Frontier Province posed a viable deterrence to the smugglers and forced them to either quit this illegal business or move through the inaccessible territories using unfrequented routes thus making smuggling expensive and difficult for them.
